Dr. Mehrunisha Suleman is a Research Fellow at the Centre of Islamic Studies, University of Cambridge and Senior Researcher at The Health Foundation. Her work bridges Islamic bioethics and population health, focusing on end-of-life care and biomedical research ethics for Muslim communities.
- Education: DPhil in Population Health (University of Oxford), BA in Biomedical Sciences (University of Cambridge), MSc in Global Health Sciences (University of Oxford), and an ‘Alimiyyah degree in Islamic studies (Al Salam Institute, 2013).
Her research interrogates cultural and religious dimensions of health ethics, including books like Islam and Biomedical Research Ethics (Routledge, 2020) and chapters on HIV/AIDS ethics, genomic research, and women’s rights. She has contributed to policy through roles with Sir Muir Gray on the QIPP Right Care Programme and UNESCO’s Ethics Teacher Training Programme.
She was awarded the 2017 National Ibn Sina Muslim News Award for Health and appointed to the Nuffield Council for Bioethics (2019). Her work spans health diplomacy, epidemiological studies, and cross-cultural bioethics.
