Mehrnaz Saeed-Vafa is an Iranian filmmaker and educator currently teaching at the Department of Film and Video at Columbia College Chicago. She has served as the Artistic Consultant of the Iranian Film Festival at the Film Center, Chicago since 1989, establishing herself as a significant figure in both academic and cultural circles focused on Iranian cinema.
Her research interests focus on Iranian cinematic traditions, particularly exploring realism in Iranian film. Saeed-Vafa examines how Iranian filmmakers navigate cultural identity, political contexts, and artistic expression within both domestic and international frameworks. Her work bridges practical filmmaking with scholarly analysis of cinematic traditions.
Saeed-Vafa's filmic output demonstrates a strong engagement with personal narratives and cultural identity.
