Mehmet Malik BANKIR serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Kastamonu University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His academic career spans multiple Turkish institutions including Dicle University (2011-2014), Nevşehir University (2008-2011), Kafkas University (2005-2008), and Dumlupınar University (1994-2001), with progressive responsibilities from Research Assistant to his current position. He also holds significant administrative roles as Research Application Center Deputy Director and previously served as Department Chair and Dean's Assistant.
His academic journey began with dual undergraduate degrees in Turkish Language and Literature from Atatürk University (1994) and Economics from Anadolu University (1991), followed by a Master's in Turkish Language (1997) and PhD in Turkish Language and Literature (2004) from Istanbul University.
Dr. BANKIR's research specializes in Modern Turkish Language with particular expertise in Old Anatolian Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, and Türkiye Turkish. His scholarly work demonstrates a consistent trajectory examining structural linguistic elements across different periods of Turkish language development, with increasing focus on verb moods, morphological features, and comparative analyses between Turkish and Persian languages. He has made significant contributions to understanding linguistic structures in classical texts like Lugat-i Erbaa and Divan poetry, as well as regional dialects and historical language evolution.
His academic leadership extends to supervising nine graduate students through thesis completion on diverse topics from Ottoman Turkish grammars to historical text analyses. He has also contributed to scholarly discourse through editorial roles for international publications including 'Gazel Ajandasi' (2024) and 'Çağdaş Lilith Gülse İnal' (2023), demonstrating his influence beyond his immediate research areas.
