Mehmet Emin Şalgamcıoğlu

Mehmet Emin Şalgamcıoğlu is an Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He has been actively involved in architectural education and research since joining ITU as a Research Assistant in 2007, becoming an Associate Professor in 2017.

His educational background includes:

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Istanbul Technical University (2003), graduating first in his class with an Achievement Award
• Master's degree in Architectural Design (with thesis) from Istanbul Technical University (2005)
• Doctorate in Architectural Design from Istanbul Technical University (2013)
• Visiting Researcher at the University of Michigan, A. Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning (2010)

Dr. Şalgamcıoğlu's research focuses on architectural design, spatial morphology, space syntax, urban gentrification, and architectural criticism. His work explores the relationship between human behavior and spatial configurations, with particular attention to domestic space organization, environment-behavior studies, and spatial perception. His research integrates theoretical frameworks with empirical studies to understand how spatial arrangements influence social interactions and cultural expressions in built environments.

His recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate a continued focus on spatial analysis, addressing topics ranging from museum space design to urban sustainability and historical urban fabric transformation. These works reflect his interdisciplinary approach that bridges architectural theory with environmental psychology and urban studies.

His scientific contributions have been recognized with several awards:

Dr. Şalgamcıoğlu has supervised numerous theses and has been involved in research projects examining the relationship between human behavior and space in university environments. His current research project "The Publicized Thresholds of Authority Structures: The Topkapı Neighborhood Example" investigates how spatial arrangements reflect and reinforce authority structures in historical urban contexts.

He is an active member of the International Association for People-Environment Studies (IAPS) Network and contributes to architectural accreditation processes through his membership in the Architectural Accreditation Association.
