Mehmet Duran serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgical Medical Sciences at Adiyaman University Faculty of Medicine. With extensive clinical and research experience in anesthesiology, he contributes significantly to both patient care and academic advancement in his field.
Dr. Duran's research interests span multiple critical areas within anesthesiology and critical care medicine. His primary focus involves regional anesthesia techniques, particularly ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, where he has pioneered research on using perfusion index as a quantitative predictor of block success. He also conducts important experimental work on pharmacological organ protection, investigating compounds like quercetin and iloprost for their protective effects against sepsis-induced damage and ischemia-reperfusion injury. Additional research interests include pediatric anesthesia, airway management techniques, and critical care management of complex cases.
His publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output with 38 refereed articles, 29 conference proceedings, and 4 authored books. Recent publications (2022-2024) show continued innovation in anesthesia techniques and experimental pharmacology research.
Dr. Duran has made significant clinical contributions through his work on anesthesia techniques for various surgical procedures, management of critical care cases, and toxicology cases in intensive care settings. His research on perfusion index monitoring represents a novel approach to predicting regional anesthesia success.
As an educator, Dr. Duran contributes to medical training through his academic position and through his authored textbooks, particularly 'Practical Peripheral Nerve Blocks Handbook,' which serves as an important resource for clinicians learning regional anesthesia techniques.
