Dr. Meghan McDonough is a Professor and Associate Dean (Graduate) in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. She holds affiliations with the O'Brien Institute for Public Health (Member), Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute (Full Member), Hotchkiss Brain Institute (Associate Member), and Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research and Education (Member).
Her research examines social relationships in physical activity contexts using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Focus areas include:
- Emotional/motivational processes and stress coping
- Self-perception in health behaviors
- Physical activity interventions for older adults
- Chronic disease management support systems
- Community-based approaches for marginalized populations
She has received significant recognition including:
- Lynn McIntyre Award for Service (2021)
- Multiple teaching and mentorship awards
- Early-career research honors like the Franklin Henry Award (2006)
Dr. McDonough leads the Relationships and Exercise Lab and teaches courses in exercise psychology, motivation, and qualitative methods. Her work is funded by national agencies including SSHRC, CIHR, and NIH.
