Meghan Masto is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Department Head at Lafayette College. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and dual B.A. and B.S. degrees from Lafayette College. Her research explores intersections between philosophy of language and epistemology, feminist philosophy, and philosophy of psychology, focusing on topics like knowledge ascriptions, empathy, and the semantics of gender identity. She teaches courses such as Philosophy of Mind, Feminist Philosophy, and Environmental Ethics, emphasizing critical reasoning and interdisciplinary engagement. Masto has received awards for teaching and scholarship, including the Robison Prize and Puryear Fellowship. She actively mentors students through research collaborations and EXCEL Scholar programs, fostering academic growth and lifelong learning. Her work bridges theoretical philosophy with real-world ethical and social issues, reflecting her commitment to rigorous yet accessible intellectual inquiry.
Her research interests include exploring how knowledge is formed through elimination processes, the role of empathy in morality, and the linguistic and epistemological dimensions of identity. She has published in journals like Philosophical Studies, The Southern Journal of Philosophy, and American Philosophical Quarterly.
