Dr. Megan Threats is a Visiting Researcher at the Yale School of Public Health and Director of the Health Justice Informatics Lab at the University of Michigan School of Information. Her work focuses on health information practices and multilevel determinants of health inequities in marginalized communities, particularly Black sexual minority men and gender minorities. She employs 'health justice informatics' to design interventions addressing systemic discrimination in healthcare and information access.
Education: PhD in Information Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; MSLIS from Syracuse University; BAs in Political Theory and Comparative Cultures from Michigan State University.
Research Interests: Intersectionality in health information systems, healthcare discrimination, telehealth equity, and technology-based interventions for marginalized populations. She collaborates with Nkiru Nnawulezi, Terika McCall, and Johanna Elumn on projects addressing HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer screening disparities, and healthcare accessibility for justice-impacted individuals.
Labs/Teams: Directs the Health Justice Informatics Lab (Michigan); affiliated with Yale’s Public Health Data Science and Equity initiatives. Her recent studies examine medical mistrust in Black AFAB adults, weight-based discrimination in healthcare, and telehealth solutions for underserved communities.
