Megan McPhee is a Professor at the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, University of Alaska Fairbanks. Her research focuses on the ecological and evolutionary processes shaping genetic, life-history, and morphological diversity in salmonids, with applications to conservation and management. She holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of New Mexico (2003) and a B.S. in Fisheries Biology from the University of Washington (1996).
Her specialties include evolutionary ecology, population genetics, and the management/conservation of salmonids. Current research projects include studying the effects of hatchery supplementation on sockeye salmon populations, genetic stock discrimination in chum salmon, and the biocomplexity of Kuskokwim River sockeye salmon. She investigates how genetic, morphological, and life-history diversity influences population stability in dynamic riverine environments.
Selected publications highlight her work on steelhead life-history diversity, salmon migration patterns via isotopic analysis, and the ecological genetics of postglacial fish populations. She advises five graduate students and collaborates with institutions like the University of Washington and University of Montana on projects addressing salmonid conservation and population dynamics.
