Megan Lindsay Cherry is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at North Carolina State University, specializing in the political, imperial, and social history of North America during the 17th and 18th centuries. They hold a Ph.D. in History from Yale University (2013), with additional degrees including a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis (2003).
Research interests include Leisler’s Rebellion, early American political ideologies, Atlantic imperial policies, and the socio-cultural history of colonial North America. Their forthcoming book New York Asunder examines the causes and legacy of Leisler’s Rebellion (1689-1691), challenging traditional interpretations to emphasize transatlantic political connections. Ongoing projects explore gin consumption in colonial America and British taxation policies in the Atlantic world.
Teaching focuses on colonial North America, the American Revolution, and queer public history. They co-coordinate the Triangle Early American History Seminar and have presented at major conferences such as the Organization of American Historians and the Omohundro Institute.
Grants and fellowships include support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the New-York Historical Society, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute. Research and publications address themes like Anglo-Dutch political thought, colonial governance, and the intersection of rumor and rebellion in early New York.
