Professor Megan Heenehan holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Wesleyan University and serves as Professor and Department Chair in the Mathematical Sciences department at Eastern Connecticut State University. Her research focuses on theoretical graph immersions, with a particular interest in graph structure and network properties. She is also actively involved in mathematics education, emphasizing inquiry-based learning and fostering student growth. Dr. Heenehan received her B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Wellesley College.
Her research interests span Graph Theory, Network Science, and Mathematics Education. She has led interdisciplinary projects, such as a 2018 undergraduate research institute analyzing movie scripts through network science. Her teaching philosophy prioritizes student collaboration and a growth mindset, encouraging learners to embrace challenges and develop problem-solving skills.
Dr. Heenehan’s publications explore both theoretical and applied aspects of graph theory, including clique immersions, Mycielski graphs, and cancer-genomic data tools. She emphasizes the applicability of mathematical training to diverse careers, advising students to pursue adaptable skills like logical reasoning and clear communication.
