Abigail Raz is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the Albert Nerken School of Engineering, The Cooper Union. She holds a B.A. from Wellesley College (2014) and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Rutgers University (2019), advised by Jeff Kahn. Her research focuses on extremal and probabilistic combinatorics, particularly analyzing thresholds for classical properties in random graph models.
Before joining Cooper Union, she was the Edith T. Hitz Postdoctoral Faculty Fellow at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (2019–2021). There, she contributed to undergraduate math club activities and the Association for Women in Mathematics chapter. She is also a member of the 2020 Project NExT cohort, emphasizing mastery-based grading in her teaching.
Raz is dedicated to fostering a growth mindset in students, combining rigorous mathematical education with confidence-building practices. She actively promotes inclusive education and has implemented innovative grading strategies since 2021.
Her awards include the 2022 Editor’s Choice Award in Discrete Mathematics and recognition through her postdoctoral fellowship and Project NExT involvement. While no specific grants or advising roles are detailed, her professional contributions span teaching innovation and combinatorial research.
