Megan Fontenot is a Brittain Fellow at the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Institute of Technology. She holds a PhD (expected 2024) from the University of Georgia, an MA from Michigan State University, and a BA from Milligan University. Her research focuses on 19th-century British literature, women’s writing, the Scottish Highlands, and gender expression, with a particular emphasis on authors like Mathilde Blind and J.R.R. Tolkien. She has published works on Tolkien’s apocalyptic themes and comparative literary analysis of his influences.
Fontenot’s academic achievements include the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award (2023) and the Christy Desmet Award (2022). Her current projects include revising her doctoral dissertation, a chapter on Tolkien and imperialism, and an article analyzing Margaret Oliphant’s Kirsteen through spatial and gendered lenses. She teaches English Composition courses (ENGL-1101/1102) and engages with broader research themes such as climate change mitigation, digital media, and cultural ethics.
