Megan E. Williams, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the University of Utah, affiliated with the School of Medicine and the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy. Her research focuses on synaptic specificity, cell adhesion molecules, and their roles in neurodevelopmental disorders.

Dr. Williams' research investigates how neurons form specific connections during brain development and how disruptions in this process contribute to neurological disorders. Her work employs molecular techniques, mouse genetics, and advanced imaging to study hippocampal circuitry. Key projects include the role of Kirrel3 in autism and intellectual disabilities, cadherin interactions in synapse formation, and translational studies on suicide risk genes.
Her recent publications highlight trends in synaptic specificity, cell adhesion molecules, and disease-associated genetic mutations. Collaborations with Dr. Hilary Coon's lab bridge basic research to human brain disorders.
Dr. Williams actively mentors graduate students and postdocs, including alumni now in academic, industry, and clinical training positions.
