Megan Crichton

Megan Crichton is a Research Fellow working in the Public Health Team at the School of Dentistry, University of Dundee. She is a registered Clinical Research Practitioner with extensive research experience focusing on patient-driven research and rare diseases.

Her educational background includes:

• BSc (Hons) Human Biology from the University of Dundee
• MFM in Forensic Medicine
• PhD completed in 2021 on 'Development of meaningful clinical trial endpoints in bronchiectasis'

Megan's research interests focus on improving clinical trial design, particularly for bronchiectasis, a neglected chronic respiratory disease. She has extensive experience with the EMBARC registry, a pan-European research project collecting data on 20,000 patients with bronchiectasis. Her work emphasizes identifying clinically relevant trial endpoints and improving patient and public quality of life through patient-driven research approaches. She also has interests in rare diseases, cystic fibrosis, and respiratory medicine more broadly.

Her recent publications demonstrate strong focus on bronchiectasis pathology, treatment approaches, and quality of life outcomes, with particular attention to microbiome studies, Aspergillus infections, and therapeutic interventions. The research shows consistent methodology development with clinical application.

Megan is an active member of the European Respiratory Society Methodology Network and has contributed to developing clinical management guidelines, including the living guidelines for the Management of hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

Her research activities include funded projects such as 'When the right words matter: Community and researchers shaping better medications conversations' and presentations on improving healthcare pathways for people with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, demonstrating her commitment to patient-centered research translation.
