Medhat El Nahas is an Instructional Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Houston, where he has worked since 2012. He served as the Mechanical Engineering Technology Program Coordinator from 2015 to 2019 and currently advises the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Egyptian Student Association (ESA) at UH.
- Education: PhD in Mechanical Engineering (University of Houston, 2011), MME (Rice University), MS (Cairo University), BS (Mansoura University).
His research spans Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Computational Modeling, with recent work on parabolic trough solar receivers and 3D finite element analysis for dental restorations. Earlier work focused on biomass energy and wave-current interactions.
Recent articles highlight his contributions to STEM education and solar energy systems. Earlier works include biomass gasification and hydrodynamic modeling.
- Scientific Awards: Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award (2022), Teaching Excellence Award (2014), Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education Award (2002), Young Research Award (1993).
He serves on UH committees, including the Undergraduate Committee and Scholarship Advisory Board. He co-chairs the Industry Advisory Board for Mechanical Engineering Technology and has authored or co-authored works on engineering education, solar energy, and fluid dynamics.
