Mecca Jamilah Sullivan, PhD, is an Associate Professor of English at Georgetown University. A Harlem native based in Washington DC, her scholarship and creative writing explore intersections of language, embodiment, and identity in Black queer and feminist contexts. She has published three major works: the novel Big Girl (NYT Editors’ Choice), short story collection Blue Talk and Love, and critical monograph Poetics of Difference.
- Recipient of Balcones Fiction Prize, Next Generation Indie Book Award, and MLA’s William Sanders Scarborough Prize
- Supported by Mellon Foundation, NEA, Schomburg Center, and others
Her research interrogates how marginalized communities reimagine cultural forms through queer and feminist frameworks. Recent projects analyze narrative structures in African diasporic literatures and the relationship between language and corporeal experience.
