Dr. Md Rafiqul Islam is a postdoctoral researcher at UNSW@ADFA, specializing in robotics and autonomous systems. He holds a PhD in Robotics/Mechatronics from the University of South Australia and an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Eastern University (Magna Cum Laude). His research focuses on motion planning/control, SLAM, sensor fusion, and autonomous navigation, leveraging AI, computer vision, and control engineering. He has contributed to projects like the Adaptive C-RAS Camouflage System (Australian Department of Defence, $52,140) and the Trusted Autonomy Self-Forming Research Group Bid (UNSW, $20,475). As a lecturer, he teaches 'Autonomous Robots (ZEIT4160)' and previously coordinated courses at UniSA. His supervisory expertise spans autonomous systems, SLAM, control systems, and mechatronics design. He uses advanced platforms like Unitree Go1, Ghost Vision 60, and Jackal UGV for research in CBRN source localization, camouflage algorithms, and multi-robot coordination.
