Małgorzata Marczak is a Professor at the Department of Genetics and Microbiology, Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS), Poland. A microbiologist and bacterial geneticist, she specializes in rhizobia-plant interactions, focusing on exopolysaccharide biosynthesis, symbiotic nitrogen fixation, and bacterial pathogenicity mechanisms. Her work bridges microbial genetics with medical applications, including genetic risk factors for female urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
- PhD (2008) and habilitation (2019) from UMCS
- 2023–present: Professor at UMCS
- Research areas: bacterial surface glycans, symbiotic interactions, human genetic disorders
Research trends from 2024–2012 highlight her expertise in rhizobial exopolysaccharides, plasmid stability, and stress response mechanisms. Recent 2024 work explores transcriptomic adaptation to acidic stress via extrachromosomal genes, while 2023 studies examine PGPR characterization and SCV pathogenesis. Earlier work (2017–2004) systematically mapped EPS biosynthesis genes in rhizobia.
Network includes collaborations with Andrew Wong (MRC), Anna Skorupska (UMCS), and international consortia like IGNITE. Her ORCID is 0000-0002-0230-103X.
