Dr. Małgorzata Daszkiewicz is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Prehistoric Archaeology, Freie Universität Berlin. She has been associated with the Topoi Excellence Cluster (I and II) since 2009, focusing on Economic Space research. Her work spans international projects in Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Turkey, Near East, Sudan, and Mexico, with a focus on archaeometric ceramic analysis.
Her research includes developing laboratory methods for determining ceramic production techniques and provenance, using Dünnschliffmikroskopie, SEM, chemical analysis (pXRF, WD-XRF), and MGR analysis. She co-developed a 30,000-entry ceramic composition database, partially published online in 2019, and pioneered experimental archaeology to study ceramic properties and firing conditions.
Her work intersects material science, chemical analysis, and economic archaeology, with a focus on Meroitic pottery, Nabataean ceramics, and Iron Age settlements. She has organized international summer schools and contributed to Topoi I/II projects on spatial knowledge systems.
She established the ARCHEA lab in Warsaw in 1998 and continues to analyze Bronze Age pottery, Roman economic spaces, and pre-modern manufacturing techniques.
