Mayra Román-Rivera

Mayra Román-Rivera is a Lecturer in the Department of Physical Geography and GIST at the University of Tennessee. Her research focuses on coastal geomorphology, remote sensing applications, and coastal management, with emphasis on post-storm recovery and community resilience. She specializes in analyzing coastal changes caused by erosion, sea-level rise, and tropical storms, particularly in Puerto Rico, Cape Cod, and the southeastern United States.

Education: Ph.D. in Geography from the University of South Carolina.

Research Interests: Coastal dynamics, GIS/remote sensing techniques, community-based resilience strategies, and the intersection of coastal science with social equity. She leads initiatives in citizen science and has recently become Chair of the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Independent Program.
