Maybell Romero is the McGlinchey Stafford Associate Professor of Law at Tulane Law School, specializing in criminal law, prosecutorial ethics, and rural justice systems. She employs autoethnographic methods to examine sexual assault law, drawing from personal experiences. Her scholarship appears in leading journals including Virginia Law Review and Georgetown Law Journal.
Before joining Tulane, she taught at Northern Illinois University and Brigham Young University, following nine years of legal practice as a prosecutor and general practitioner in Utah. She established juvenile mental health courts and served on state Supreme Court committees.
Education includes a JD from UC Berkeley School of Law (2006), where she was editor-in-chief of the Berkeley Journal of Criminal Law, and a BA from Cornell University (2003). As a first-generation graduate and Latina scholar, she chairs professional associations including the AALS Criminal Law Section.
