Maya Watson is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Business and Community Law Clinic at Wayne State University Law School. She joined the faculty in 2022 after 11 years of practicing transactional law in Detroit and serving as Director of the Maywood Medical-Legal Partnership at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Her expertise spans health equity, social justice, and reparative justice, with a focus on legal frameworks addressing systemic inequities in healthcare and civil rights.

As clinic director, Watson leads initiatives supporting Detroit nonprofits and small businesses through legal services. Her work emphasizes community-academic partnerships to address systemic disparities, as highlighted in her Frontiers Public Health case study on pandemic inequities.
Watson’s teaching includes the Health Justice Lab and Business and Community Law Clinic, focusing on race and health equity. Her professional service includes roles at Loyola Chicago and community legal partnerships, reflecting her commitment to interprofessional approaches to justice.
