May Young serves as Department Chair and Associate Professor of Biblical Studies at Taylor University, specializing in Old Testament studies. Her academic credentials include a PhD and MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a BA from the University of Illinois.
Her research centers on biblical lament, Hebrew poetry, and Old Testament prophets, exploring theological and pastoral dimensions of texts like Psalms and Lamentations. She integrates historical context with contemporary faith applications, particularly in divine-human dialogue during suffering.
Recent publications (2021-2025) consistently address lament theology across monographs, book chapters, and reviews. Her upcoming 2029 Pillar Commentary on Lamentations demonstrates sustained scholarly focus on this niche.
Dr. Young received Taylor University's Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award (2021) and the Genie Lau Memorial Award (2014). She was also a Merit Scholar at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (2007-2009).
Committed to holistic student development, she mentors through classroom instruction and personal interactions like shared meals. Professionally, she serves on the Institute for Biblical Research board and Sacred Roots editorial board, advancing biblical scholarship through peer review and academic leadership.
