May M. Mansy

May M. Mansy is an Instructional Assistant Professor and the BME Learning Assistant (LA) Program Director at the University of Florida's J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering, which is part of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering. Her roles emphasize teaching and program development in engineering education and neuroscience.

Dr. Mansy holds a B.S. in Systems & Biomedical Engineering from Cairo University (2009) and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Florida (2019).

Her research focuses on neural engineering and bioelectrical signals, particularly using optical methods like two-photon imaging and fiber photometry to study neural activity. She is also deeply involved in engineering leadership and ethics, leveraging her neuroscience background to design teaching strategies. Her approach integrates Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory with cognitive science principles, emphasizing sensory engagement, reflective observation, and collaborative problem-solving to optimize student learning and retention.

Mansy pioneered the BME LA Program, the first discipline-specific Learning Assistant initiative in the Wertheim College of Engineering. This program trains top undergraduates to support peers in foundational courses, using research-backed methods. She has been recognized with awards such as the 2023-2024 Undergraduate Teacher of the Year and the 2018 Engineering Leadership Certificate.

In advising, she has mentored students during her PhD as a teaching assistant for graduate/undergraduate courses in BME and ECE. Her current instruction includes Biomedical Instrumentation (lecture and lab), Biomedical Signals and Systems, and Education Methods for BME Learning Assistants.
