Dr. Abdelaziz teaches medicinal chemistry in the PharmD curriculum and mentors students across academic levels.
Her research focuses on kinase-targeted drug discovery with emphasis on allosteric modulators, enzyme kinetics, and protein-protein interactions. Current NIH-funded projects include:
- R15 Award (NCI): Developing allosteric HER2 inhibitors for breast cancer
- R21 Award (NIAID): Studying VraS kinase mutations in bacterial antibiotic resistance
- Bacterial histidine kinases as targets for resistance-modifying agents
She has received multiple honors including:
- Dean’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Studies
- VCU 10 under 10 Award
- Graduate School Dissertation Award
- Teacher of the Year Award
Dr. Abdelaziz leads an active research team investigating cancer therapeutics and bacterial resistance mechanisms, with recent publications spanning microbiology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutical education.
