Maxwell Palmer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Boston University, a Civic Tech Fellow in the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences, and a Faculty Fellow at the Initiative on Cities. He joined Boston University in 2014 after earning his Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard University, alongside an A.M. from Harvard and an A.B. from Bowdoin College.

His research focuses on American political institutions, including Congress, electoral systems, and local governance. Palmer teaches courses in American Politics and Political Methodology. His work bridges academic research with practical applications, addressing topics like gerrymandering solutions, affordable housing inequities, and the role of technology in civic engagement. Current projects explore durable partisan gerrymanders and racial turnout gaps in local elections.
