Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr.

Professor Maximo Q. Mejia is President of World Maritime University (WMU) and an expert in maritime governance with over three decades of academic and professional experience. He holds a PhD from Lund University, MSc from World Maritime University, MALD from Tufts University, and BSc from the United States Naval Academy. His research focuses on maritime policy, law, and safety. Previously, he served as Administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and held senior roles in the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard.

Leadership: As WMU's first Asian president and alumnus, he oversees academic programs and global maritime capacity-building initiatives. Fluent in English, Filipino, Swedish, with working knowledge of Spanish and Chinese.
