Dr. Maximo J. Ortega is an Associate Professor of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering at the Talwar College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, part of the Indiana Institute of Technology. His academic journey began with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Chihuahua Institute of Technology (1982), followed by M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering (1995) and Educational Mathematics (1990), and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from SUNY Buffalo (2001).
Dr. Ortega's research focuses on Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Simulation, Supply Chain Management, and Manufacturing Education. He pioneered the development of a Virtual Manufacturing Laboratory to enhance educational outcomes, emphasizing technology integration and continuous improvement. His work bridges theoretical concepts like the Theory of Constraints with practical applications in industrial systems.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Advanced Modelling, Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems, and Senior Project supervision. He actively advises IME teams competing in the National Robotics Challenge and the Warrior Catholic initiative, fostering student innovation in robotics and automation.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Ortega held leadership positions at institutions like Chihuahua II Technological Institute (1982–2006), where he managed departments and coordinated research initiatives. His industrial experience includes environmental compliance roles (1982–1984) and consulting for Mexican companies (2003–2006).
