Maximillian E. Novak is a Research Professor in the Department of English at the University of California, Los Angeles. He earned his D.Phil. from St. John's College, Oxford (1961) and his Ph.D. from UCLA (1958). His scholarly focus spans Eighteenth-Century British Literature, Restoration Literature, and Jewish American Fiction. Professor Novak has authored and edited numerous volumes central to understanding Daniel Defoe's narratives and broader literary movements.
