Nancy E. Berg is a Professor of Hebrew Language and Literature at Washington University in St. Louis, affiliated with the Department of Jewish, Islamic, and Middle Eastern Studies. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and specializes in Iraqi Jewish literature, Israeli women’s writing, cultural memory, and food studies.

Her research explores Jewish cultural production beyond Euro-American/Israeli contexts, focusing on North Africa, the Levant, the Arabian Peninsula, and South/Central Asia. She co-edited the National Jewish Book Award-winning What We Talk about When We Talk about Hebrew (2018) and edited the forthcoming Longing and Belonging: Jews of the Modern Islamic World (2025).
Her recent articles address topics such as exile narratives, archival practices in Jewish communities, and literary exchanges between Jewish and Arab writers. These works intersect with broader themes of diaspora, postcolonialism, and gender.
