Maximilian Häberle is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) in Heidelberg, working in the Galactic Nuclei Group led by Nadine Neumayer. His research focuses on observational studies of globular clusters and the search for intermediate-mass black holes in their centers, utilizing high-precision proper motion measurements of stars. He also develops novel astronomical instrumentation, including participation in the SDSS-V Local Volume Mapper (LVM) project, which achieved first light and began survey operations. In October 2023, he joined the METIS project, a mid-infrared instrument for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).
Previously, he earned his PhD from Heidelberg University under the supervision of Nadine Neumayer and Tom Herbst. During his studies, he gained experience at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile and the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore, USA. His expertise spans both observational astrophysics and instrument development, bridging theoretical models with cutting-edge observational techniques.
His work contributes to understanding galactic dynamics through stellar motion analysis and advancing next-generation astronomical tools. While no specific awards are mentioned, his active role in major projects like LVM and METIS highlights his impactful contributions to the field.
