Max Trecker is a Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of History, University of Pittsburgh, affiliated with the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on 19th- and 20th-century Central and Eastern European history, economic history, and transnational history.

His recent publications explore topics such as the wartime origins of planned economies, East German entrepreneurship under socialism, and Cold War economic dynamics in the Global South. He has received the European Summer School 2016 Best Paper Prize for his work on socialist East's engagement with the Global South debt crisis.
Teaching in Spring 2025 includes courses on Socialism vs. Capitalism, Comparative European History, and Directed Study. Office hours are Thursdays 1-2 PM in 3910 Wesley W Posvar Hall.
