Max Schnepf is a researcher and PhD candidate at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, part of the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin. His work focuses on the intersections of queer studies, medical anthropology, and science and technology studies, particularly examining the socio-cultural implications of HIV prevention through Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) in Berlin.
Max is actively involved in public anthropology, co-curating the exhibition "Viral Intimacies" and contributing to debates on biomedical interventions, affective economies, and queer activism. He teaches courses such as "Queere Ethnographie" and "Urban Imaginaries" and collaborates on projects analyzing non-normative sexual practices and pharmaceutical governance.
His recent publications explore themes like affective labor, hauntings of HIV/AIDS, and moralization of biomedical technologies. Max engages with interdisciplinary networks, including the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA), and advocates for critical perspectives in public health and queer theory.
