Max Roehl is a researcher at the University of Tübingen's German Seminar, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. He specializes in 18th–20th century German literature, political history of ideas, drama theory, and literature-psychoanalysis intersections.

His 2024 edited volume Politische Ideen in der Literatur addresses political themes from Romanticism to contemporary literature, while his 2021 monograph Der abwesende Souverän analyzes sovereignty in Dürrenmatt's works. His 2020 dissertation Theorie der dramatischen Figur redefines drama through figure theory.
