Max Hülsey is an Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) since 2024, holding the Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track position within the TUM School of Natural Sciences. His research focuses on catalytic interfaces for sustainable chemical energy carriers, specifically exploring the interplay between heterogeneous thermochemical and electrochemical catalysis. He graduated from the University of Heidelberg with a degree in biochemistry and chemistry, followed by a doctorate in chemical engineering from the National University of Singapore. After postdoctoral research at MIT, he joined TUM to advance sustainable methods for chemical raw material production and conversion.
His research interests include understanding polarization effects in reactions without nominal charge transfer, non-Faraday reactions in electrochemical systems, and developing catalysts for energy-efficient processes. Key achievements include studies on single-atom catalysts, pH-dependent nanoparticle polarization, and electrothermal reactions.
Awards:
- Nanyang Assistant Professorship (2024, declined)
- Schmidt Science Fellowship (2021)
- Young Scientist Travel Support Prize (2020)
- SINGA Scholarship (2017)
- Germany Scholarship (2015)
His work bridges fundamental catalysis research with real-world applications, particularly in sustainable energy conversion and chemical synthesis. While no specific grants or advising roles are detailed, his lab focuses on catalytic interfaces and material innovation.
