Prof. Max Finlayson is an Aquatic Science expert and Adjunct Professor at the Gulbali Institute, Charles Sturt University. Former Director of the Institute for Land, Water and Society (2008–2019), his work focuses on wetland ecology, climate change adaptation, and sustainable agriculture. He advises global initiatives like the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and contributes to UNESCO assessments on ecosystems and biodiversity.
Research interests include wetland health-human well-being linkages, climate change vulnerability, and wetland restoration. He emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, integrating ecological, socio-economic, and policy dimensions to address complex environmental challenges.
Publications span wetland mapping, Ramsar policy analysis, and climate change impacts. Collaborations involve governments, NGOs, and international bodies to bridge science and management for sustainable development.
