Mauro Porto is a Professor of Communication at Tulane University, affiliated with the Stone Center for Latin American Studies and the Brazilian Studies Program. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of California-San Diego (2001), an M.A. in Political Science (1993), and a B.A. in Communication (1988) from Universidade de Brasília. His research focuses on the intersection of media, politics, and democratization in Brazil, with a particular emphasis on the role of TV Globo and far-right movements. He has authored two books and numerous articles on media power, political communication, and critical whiteness studies. His work has been recognized with awards such as the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award from INTERCOM (2002) and the Vilmar Farias Chair (2003).
