Mauro Giacomantonio is an Associate Professor at the Department of Social and Developmental Psychology, University of Rome 'Sapienza'. He holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the same institution (2009) and specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy. His research focuses on self-regulation, motivation, conspiracy theories, LGBTQ+ rights, and socio-political attitudes. Giacomantonio has held academic roles since 2004, including Assistant Professor (2010–2018) and Associate Professor (2018–present). He has conducted visiting research at the University of Amsterdam and the University of Essex, exploring conflict resolution and implicit measures.
His work examines topics like the psychological underpinnings of populism, tax evasion attitudes, and mindfulness’s role in reducing materialism. Notable contributions include studies on LGBTQ+ conspiracy beliefs and their impact on collective action, as well as the mediating effects of system justification and moral convictions. Giacomantonio has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and co-edited books on motivated psychology and research methods in social psychology.
Current projects involve investigating the psychological roots of populism and its socio-political consequences. He actively participates in research teams and has supervised numerous studies on gender stereotypes, anti-immigrant attitudes, and the cognitive foundations of conspiracy ideation.
