Maurizio Anzini is a Full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Siena, affiliated with the Department of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Pharmacy. He holds a PhD in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Rome La Sapienza and has expertise in synthetic chemistry, drug design, and analytical methods. His research focuses on neuroprotective agents, COX-2 inhibitors, and translocator protein ligands, with over 99 peer-reviewed publications and 7 patents. Dr. Anzini has led research funded by MIUR, CNR, and pharmaceutical companies, and has organized major conferences like the FECHEM Conference on Heterocycles.
Education: BSc in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology (University of Rome La Sapienza, 1976), specialization in Clinical Chemistry (University of Camerino, 1980). Professional Experience: Researcher at the Institute of Health (1974–1983), Lecturer and Associate Professor at Universities of Siena and Catanzaro (1983–2001), Full Professor since 2014. Teaching includes courses such as Medicinal and Toxicological Chemistry II and Drug Analysis III.
Research interests include drug design for neurodegenerative diseases, inflammation, and anticancer agents, alongside analytical methods using HPLC and capillary electrophoresis. His work bridges computational modeling and synthetic chemistry to develop novel therapeutic compounds.
