Mauricio Avendano Pabon is a Visiting Professor of Public Policy and Global Health, and Head of the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine at King's College London. He also holds adjunct positions at Harvard University's T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Harvard Centre of Population and Development Studies. His academic journey includes roles at the London School of Economics (2011-2015), Harvard University (2008-2010), and Erasmus Rotterdam University (2002-2011).
- Education: PhD in Public Health (Erasmus University Rotterdam, 2006), MSc in Epidemiology (2004), and MPH (2002) from Erasmus University Medical Center.
- Research Focus: Impact of public policies on health, health inequalities, aging populations, and interdisciplinary approaches combining epidemiology, economics, and sociology.
- Grants: ERC Starting Grant, Dutch Excellence Grants, NIH, ESRC, and Wellcome Trust funding.
Research Interests
Professor Avendano examines how education, pension systems, long-term care policies, and urban planning influence health outcomes. His work uses quasi-experimental designs to assess causal impacts of policies on physical/mental health and inequalities.
