Maurice Starkey

Maurice Starkey is Senior Lecturer in International Business and Business Economics at Sheffield Hallam University's Sheffield Business School. He teaches International Strategy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and leads a first-year economics module.

Research examines banking crises, financial deregulation, and credit creation mechanisms. Starkey has pioneered electronic mind maps for teaching economic theory and developed the Quantity Theory of Credit framework to analyze financial crises. His work challenges conventional monetary transmission mechanisms.

Publications analyze financial deregulation in the UK since the 1970s, credit money creation by banks, and central bank policies during financial crises. Starkey advocates for structural reforms in banking systems to prevent future crises.
