Maureen Zalewski Regnier is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Oregon's College of Arts and Sciences. She serves as the Director of Clinical Training at the Center for Translational Neuroscience and has formal training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based approach for treating Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and other conditions involving emotional dysregulation. Her research focuses on understanding how parental mental health disorders, particularly maternal BPD and substance use, influence child development and parenting practices.
Dr. Zalewski's work explores the intersection of emotion regulation, developmental psychopathology, and parenting interventions. Her lab recently completed a 5-year clinical trial on DBT Skills for mothers of preschool-aged children. She also supervises a DBT Skills practicum at the University of Oregon Psychology Training Clinic. Her research incorporates HPA-Axis dynamics in studying stress responses in parenting contexts.
Her selected publications highlight trends in applying DBT to maternal-child mental health, emotion regulation in preschoolers, and parenting interventions. These studies span clinical psychology, developmental psychology, and behavioral therapy disciplines. Dr. Zalewski is not accepting new graduate students for Fall 2025.
