Maureen Thum is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language and Communication at the University of Michigan-Flint, affiliated with the College of Arts, Sciences and Education. She teaches foundational courses such as ENG 111 College Rhetoric and ENG 112 Critical Writing & Reading, focusing on developing students' writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Her research interests span Rhetoric, Critical Writing, and English Education, with a strong emphasis on Educational Outreach and Curriculum Development. These areas are reflected in her work on the UM-Flint Honors Program Outreach and Recruiting Project for Genesee County, which aims to enhance academic engagement and accessibility.
Maureen has secured research funding through the Welch, James A., Foundation. The project, active from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2013, was awarded $10,015.00 on November 14, 2011, supporting her efforts in educational outreach as Principal Investigator (PI) in Winter 2014.
