Maureen Taylor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London, part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Her research focuses on understanding molecular mechanisms of sugar-binding receptors in immune cell recognition processes, particularly in contexts of infection and disease. Collaborating with Professor Kurt Drickamer, her work combines biochemical, biophysical, and cell biological techniques to study glycan-mediated interactions.
Her research interests include glycobiology, innate immunity, and the role of C-type lectins in pathogen detection. Key areas of study involve macrophage and dendritic cell receptors, their roles in phagocytosis, and how genetic variations affect disease susceptibility. Her lab investigates diseases like tuberculosis, leprosy, and HIV transmission via receptor-ligand interactions.
Publications highlight advancements in lectin array technologies for glycan screening, structural studies of receptors like Mincle and dectin-2, and functional analyses of immune receptors in host-microbe interactions. Her work contributes to drug discovery and understanding immune defense mechanisms.
Dr. Taylor is affiliated with Imperial’s Agri Futures Lab, Glycobiology group, and the Membrane Receptor Network. She maintains an active lab at the South Kensington Campus, focusing on translating glycobiology insights into clinical and therapeutic applications.
