Maureen O'Connor is Senior Lecturer in English at University College Cork, specializing in Irish women's writing, ecofeminism, and postcolonial studies. She holds a PhD from Claremont Graduate University and has been Visiting Professor at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg.
Her research explores intersections of gender, ecology, and animality in Irish literature, with emphasis on Edna O'Brien, Elizabeth Bowen, and nineteenth-century cultural history. Recent monographs include Edna O'Brien and the Art of Fiction and The Female and the Species: The Animal in Irish Women's Writing.
Publications demonstrate sustained focus on ecocritical theory, material culture, and feminist revisions of Irish literary history. Recent work increasingly engages with the Anthropocene and peatland ecologies.
O'Connor has received prestigious awards including an IRC Ulysses Grant and L'Oréal UNESCO Fellowship. She directs projects on peatland humanities and leads international collaborations on Irish ecocriticism.
