Maureen Lux is a Professor of History at Brock University specializing in Canadian history, Indigenous-government relations, and the social history of medicine. Her SSHRC-funded research project 'Inuit Health and Qallunaat Medicine' examines Western medicine's role in colonial contexts and the medicalization of social policy.
Professor Lux's scholarship investigates the intersections of health policy, colonialism, and Indigenous rights. Her award-winning book 'Separate Beds' analyzes the segregated Indian hospital system in Canada, while 'Medicine That Walks' explores disease and medical encounters on the Canadian Plains. Her current research investigates tuberculosis treatment and the relocation of Inuit patients during the mid-20th century.
Her work has received prestigious awards including the Royal Society of Canada's Jason A. Hannah Medal (2002, 2017) and the Canadian Historical Association's Aboriginal History Prize (2017).
