Maureen Cropper is a Distinguished University Professor of Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park. She holds affiliations as a Senior Fellow at Resources for the Future and former Lead Economist at the World Bank. Her academic career spans over five decades, with expertise in environmental economics, public health policy, and cost-benefit analysis. Dr. Cropper earned a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Bryn Mawr College and a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University.
Her research focuses on valuing environmental amenities, discounting future health benefits, and evaluating environmental regulations. Current projects include studying air pollution control in India, plastic toxicity impacts, and pandemic preparedness economics. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Publications highlight her work in journals like Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, and World Bank Reports. Awards include recognition for contributions to environmental health policy and sustainable development.
