Dr. Maureen C MacLeod is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Humanities Department at Mercy College's School of Liberal Arts. She also serves as Seminars Program Director and co-Activity Director for a Department of Education Title V grant. Her research focuses on early 19th-century French female education, particularly at the Maisons d'Éducation de la Légion d'Honneur, exploring how these institutions empowered women to shape their futures. She teaches European history, women's and gender studies, Middle Eastern history, and the history of science and technology. A dedicated educator, Dr. MacLeod integrates travel experiences into her teaching and has published works on online history pedagogy and Napoleonic-era women’s history.
Education Focus
Teaches courses ranging from medieval Europe to modern global suffrage movements, emphasizing historical research methods and technology integration. Recent publications include a Routledge guide to online history teaching (2023) and studies on Napoleonic-era female education.
Research & Grants
Current project: Le Bel Esprit: Creating Female Independence through Education in Early 19th-Century France, analyzing student dossiers from Napoleonic archives. Active in Title V grant administration to enhance student success programs.
