Maulik Jagnani is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Economics at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and Department of Economics, Tufts University. His research focuses on environmental sustainability, human capital development, and poverty alleviation in lower-income countries. He examines how households and firms adapt to extreme environmental conditions like heat, air pollution, and floods, and evaluates policy impacts on health and education outcomes.
Education: PhD in Applied Economics (Cornell University, 2019); MS in Economics (Tufts University, 2012); BCom (University of Mumbai, 2009).
Research interests include climate adaptation strategies, labor productivity under environmental stress, and gender disparities in post-pandemic recovery. He has conducted field experiments in Bangladesh, India, Malawi, and Nepal, leveraging data from India, Indonesia, and Kenya to inform policy. His work emphasizes actionable insights for policymakers through quasi-experiments and natural experiments.
Teaching includes courses on Environmental Economics, Sustainable Development, and Microeconomics. Collaborations span public and private sectors, with notable projects on flood early warning systems and air purifier adoption in Bangladesh.
